Getting Started With HTML

To begin using HTML, you will need to have a few things. Here is the big list of items you need to have to get started:
  1. You will need to have a computer that is running. Most likely you have this already, since you are reading this page.
  2. You will need a text editor of your choice. If you have windows, Notepad will do the trick. If you have a Mac, you can use BBEdit. To find Notepad/BBEdit on your computer:
    • In Windows 3.x, find the program group named "Accessories" and double click to open it.
You should see an icon like this: Notepad Icon
Open it by double clicking on the icon.
    • In Windows 95 or higher, click the "Start" button, go to the "Programs" folder, then to the "Accessories" folder. You should then see the above icon (but smaller) with "Notepad" written to the side of it. Open it by clicking over this area.
    • On a Mac, you should be able to find "BBEdit" under the Apple menu.
  3. You will need a Web browser of your choice. If you possibly can, use the latest version of Firefox, Netscape Navigator, or Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  4. You will need a place to save your work. You can use your hard drive, a floppy disk, or your Web server. You don't have to work online, you can write the HTML and use your Web browser offline on your own computer. We will get to that shortly, in the next tutorial.

Okay, once you have the above materials, you can begin creating your own Web pages with HTML. Let's move on to the next tutorial, Using the Materials.

15 Tips to Increase Blog Traffic

. Monday, April 27, 2009
0 komentar

By Susan Gunelius

The blogosphere is a big and busy world with over 100 million blogs and growing. How do you attract visitors to your blog? Follow these simple tips to drive traffic to your blog.

1. Write Well and Write Often

Frequently updating your blog with useful content is the first step to building your blog's audience. The content you write is what will keep readers coming back for more. Make sure you have something meaningful to say to them and say it often to maintain their interest and keep them loyal.

Furthermore, post frequently to increase the number of chances you have for your blog's content to be noticed by search engines such as Google or Technorati.

2. Submit Your Blog to Search Engines

Get on the radar screen for the popular search engines such as Google and Yahoo! by submitting your blog's URL to them. Most search engines provide a 'Submit' link (or something similar) to notify the search engine of your new blog, so those search engines will crawl it and include your pages in their results.

It's important to understand that simply submitting your blog to search engines doesn't mean your pages will appear at the top of a Google search results screen, but at least your blog will be included and will have the chance of being picked up by a search engine.

3. Use and Update Your Blogroll

By adding links to sites you like in your blogroll, the owners of those blogs will find your blog and will be likely to add a reciprocal link in their blogrolls. It's an easy way to get the link to your blog in front of many readers on other blogs. The hope is that some of those readers will click on the link to your blog on the other blogs' blogrolls and find your content interesting and enjoyable turning them into loyal readers.

4. Harness the Power of Comments

Commenting is a simple and essential tool to increase your blog's traffic. First, respond to comments left on your blog to show your readers that you value their opinions and draw them into a two-way conversation. This will increase reader loyalty.

Second, leave comments on other blogs to drive new traffic. Make sure you leave your blog's URL in your comment, so you create a link back to your own blog. Many people will read the comments left on a blog post. If they read a particularly interesting comment, they are highly likely to click on the link to visit the commentor's website. It's important to make sure you leave meaningful comments that are likely to invite people to click on your link to read more.

5. Syndicate Your Blog's Content with an RSS Feed

Setting up an RSS feed button on your blog makes it easy for your loyal readers to not just read your blog but also know when you publish new content.

6. Use Links and Trackbacks

Links are one of the most powerful parts of your blog. Not only are links noticed by search engines, but they also act as a tap on the shoulder to other bloggers who can easily identify who is linking to their sites. Linking helps to get you noticed by other bloggers who are likely to investigate the sites that are linking to them. This may lead them to become new readers of your blog or to add links to your blog from theirs.

You can take links to other blogs a step further by leaving a trackback on the other blog to let them know you've linked to them. Blogs that allow trackbacks will include a link back to your blog in the comments section of the post that you originally linked to. People do click on trackback links!

7. Tag Your Posts

It takes a few extra seconds to add tags to each of your blog posts, but it's worth the time in terms of the additional traffic tags can drive to your blog. Tags (like links) are easily noticed by search engines. They're also key to helping readers find your blog when they perform searches on popular blog search engines such as Technorati.

8. Submit Your Posts to Social Bookmarking Sites

Taking the time to submit your best posts to social bookmarking sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit and more can be a simple way to quickly boost traffic to your blog.

9. Remember Search Engine Optimization

When you write your blog posts and pages, remember to optimize your pages for search engines to find them. Include relevant keywords and links but don't overload your posts with too many relevant keywords or completely irrelevant keywords. Doing so can be considered spamming and could have negative results such as your blog being removed from Google's search entirely.

10. Don't Forget Images

Images don't just make your blog look pretty, they also help people find you in search engine listings. People often use the image search options offered by Google, Yahoo! and other search engines, and naming your images with search engine optimization in mind can easily boost your traffic.

The blogosphere is a big and busy world with over 100 million blogs and growing. How do you attract visitors to your blog? Follow these simple tips to drive traffic to your blog.

11. Consider Guest Blogging

Guest blogging can be done when you write a guest post on another blogger's blog or when another blogger writes a guest post on your blog. Both methods are likely to increase traffic as your blog will be exposed to the other blogger's audience. Many of the other blogger's readers will visit your blog to see what you have to say.

12. Join Forums, Web Rings or Online Groups

Find online forums, web rings, groups or social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn where you can share ideas and ask questions of like-minded individuals. Add a link to your blog in your signature line or profile, so each time you post on a forum or participate in another online network, you're indirectly promoting your blog. Chances are many people will click on that link to learn more about you.

13. Promote Outside Your Blog

Promoting your blog shouldn't stop when you step outside the blogosphere. Add your blog's URL to your email signature and business cards. Talk about it in offline conversations. It's important to get your name and your blog's URL noticed offline, too.

14. Nominate Yourself and Other Blogs for Blog Awards

There are a number of blog awards given out throughout the year. Nominating yourself and other blogs and bloggers can draw attention to your blog and drive traffic to it.

15. Don't Be Shy

The most important part of the blogosphere is its community and much of your success as a blogger will be tied to your willingness to network with that community. Don't be afraid to ask questions, join conversations or just say hi and introduce yourself. Don't sit back and hope the online world will find you. Speak out and get yourself noticed. Let the blogosphere know you've arrived and have something to say!

How To Start SEO With The Right Attitude And Direction

By Karl Sultana

A common problem is that most webmasters think it is going to be too difficult or they give up quickly. Like anything else, you need to accumulate knowledge and experience, to improve your SEO skills.

Do not give up if you struggle a bit at first and understand that it is very common. With everything you do, you cannot get something perfect at once. But you need to commit to the idea of getting one keyword in the number one spot on Google. If you jump from one traffic generation method to another, you always find the same thing. No method gives you instant traffic. Every and each method requires some time to at least get used to it.

A good idea is to focus on SEO for an entire month and you should then see some results. At least if your website is brand new you should see some rankings starting from MSN, then Yahoo and finally Google. The older your site gets and the more backlinks it accumulates the faster it will rank.

Do not commit SEO suicide.

Pagerank does not give you any significant meaning of your progress. Simple because all websites pagerank are updated by the search engines every couple months. You might already have some pagerank, but you can only see how much pagerank you have when search engines do a pagerank update. So do not give up just because you have no pagerank.

On the other hand, you can see where you rank instantly. Whenever someone searches for a keyword in a search engine, the spiders put up the results with the best optimized websites at the very top. This is done each time someone searches something. That is obviously good news, there is no such thing as ranking update. If you merit the number one position, you are going to be there now.

There are several reasons why these thing work like this. But it is technical things that are not very important for us to know.

Checking how many backlinks you have is also something which many webmasters do the wrong way. First of all never use Google, because they do not show all backlinks a website has. It is recommended to use Yahoo or other search engines.

If you got a thousand links the past month, it does not mean you are going to see a thousand backlinks when you check how many backlinks you have.

For example, if you got backlinks from webpages that are not yet indexed, they will not show up. There is nothing to worry about here, but simple do not judge your progress by the number of backlinks you have.

You judge your progress by checking where your website ranks for your particular keyword. That is the ultimate method.

The motto is, have fun while doing SEO. It is worth doing, so why not have a happy attitude, it makes thing better. Getting the first keyword on page one or two in Google for the first time is very exiting. Probably once you master SEO you feel less exited when you get rankings. This is like making money online. Your first twenty dollars or the first sale is the most exiting.

How to Boost Your Adsense Income?

. Sunday, April 26, 2009
0 komentar

Howdy, folks! Here in this article i show you how to increase your AdSense revenue. But before i begin, the one thing you should keep depth in your mind is that you only earn a few cents when someone clicks an ad, for the most part. That amount can be as little as three cents, and on up to five dollars. The most successful AdSense publishers are targeting keywords that pay the most amount of money. These AdSense publishers find out the high paying keywords using a variety of keyword research tools, such as Keyword Country, Word Tracker, Keyword Discovery, Keyword Elite, Keyword Expert and Niche Bot. These are what i’m currently using, not here, but on my other blogs. Yeaahh… i have been using these tools since a few months back as the default keywords checker to strategize the pay per click advertisements.

Ok, to boost your AdSense income, you completely need page impression in a bunch number everyday. You know that this situations is not a simple work for everyone, specially for a beginner like me. The page impression per day need many effort and advertise in many place, such as in the social network like digg, technorati and similar place.

After get many impression of your blog, then you have to explore your AdSense ads that are being displayed on any page of your site. Write down of every ads address and evaluate what the cost for every click, moreover, it’s not a simple work.

You can get this data if anyone click your AdSense ads through Google Analytic that completed with many feature to analyze of every visitor come from. Through the AdSense and Analytic data, you can combine and get the cost for every click on your site. At this way, you can get the data of advertiser’s cost per click. Some websites has recorded the site, but the accuracy may not be appropriate, so you should try by yourself.

Another problem is inappropriate ads. You won’t spammy junk advertised on your site, right? So you can block ads for sites that don’t meet your standards. You can also block strong competitors. Please remember, you can filter up to 200 URLs. Also, you’d like to be able to identify and block ads that have very low payout rates, without doing a bunch of sleuthing and messing around.

Some registered websites on AdSense could limited the price of their ads in order to get a higher price for every click. Google also will automatically sets quite high clickthrough rates for any domain name with high page rank and long life cycle. Older website has a higher price than a new one, so advertiser with high price will be merged in the older website. Of course, this’s make the publishers have more earning from their AdSense.

By the way, a successful AdSense publisher may have sites on topics such as fishing, weight loss, video games, making money, and more. When you have multiple sites, you can make a nice living with a mid level amount of traffic to each site. If you have hundreds of sites, which some publishers do, you can make a living even with low traffic. So, here is some food for thought: The more traffic you have per site, the fewer sites you will need to earn a living from AdSense.

I hope that this’s will going to help you to incrase your AdSense revenue.

Regards & Thank You,
Hendy

Top 7 Ways to Engage Students in Math

. Thursday, April 23, 2009
0 komentar

source : http://www.edarticle.com
If you are a teacher that is frustrated by a student’s lack of interest in math class, you are not alone. Teachers across the nation, and generations of teachers before them, have struggled with engaging their students in this traditionally dry academic subject.

All is not lost. You do not have to settle for unmotivated students. By following the simple techniques listed below, you just might turn math class into the most anticipated class in their schedule.

1. Align classroom learning with how they receive information outside of school.
In the last ten years technology has advanced at a mind-boggling rate. Students today are growing up with computers, cell phones, video games, and iPods.

By incorporating technology into the classroom and allowing students to access their schoolwork and homework on the computer, you can begin to communicate with them in their own language and capture their attention.

Click here to view a video that shows how this works: http://www.etrafficpress.com/sustainability/

2. Mix up the lesson by incorporating multimedia.
All work and no play can make math a less than fun class. Spice things up by bringing in math games, videos, and online activities to break up the monotony, while still being productive and furthering lesson plan goals.

Click here for an example: http://budurl.com/pilotmath

3. Use real world examples.
Students receive an overload of information every day. If they do not see how a math formula fits into their lives, the information filter in their brains will sift it out and they will not retain the lesson taught.

By using real world examples on how math can be applied, the entertainment value of your math lesson goes up and students will be more likely to remember it.

Click here for an example: http://budurl.com/realworldexamples

4. Use video to introduce new units.
When you are about to introduce your class to something new, why not use a video or animation to introduce the concept to them before diving right in? This can provide your real world application of the concept and introduce a media component to your lesson.

Click here for an example: http://budurl.com/introductionvideo

5. Use arcade-style games to reinforce vocabulary and reward students.
When students finish a math unit, allow them to play a math game as a reward for a job well done. Games can reinforce math vocabulary and allow students to apply what they have learned in a fun way.

Click here for an example: http://www.pilotmath.com/pilotdemo

6. Challenge gifted students.
As a teacher, you likely spend a lot of your time helping students that do not understand a concept. This unfortunately takes time away from the gifted students, who would benefit from an additional challenge. By utilizing self-directed online math modules that take the unit material to the next level, the gifted students in your class can exercise their minds while you continue to bring the rest of the class up to speed.

Click here for an example of a Concept Capsule: http://budurl.com/conceptcapsule

7. Provide online resources to aide students who need extra help.
Sometimes students need a little bit more help to understand a concept and would benefit from the use of differentiated instruction methods. To provide this support without holding up the rest of the class, assign the struggling student to review online resources such as self-directed modules, videos, or math games as part of their homework.

Click here for an example of a Notepad Tutor Lesson: http://budurl.com/notepadtutor

By incorporating all of the above tips into your math class, you will better capture the attention of your students and increase their mastery of math. Give them a try today!

These tips are courtesy of Pilot Math by Etraffic Press, a blended math resource that combines print and online elements to create an engaging classroom experience. The Pilot Math textbook and workbook are available in print as well as online, allowing students to access the texts anywhere there is an internet connection. Included with the textbook are supplementary online resources such as math animations, interactive math games, Notepad Tutor video lessons, and Concept Capsule lesson modules.

Make your computer more secure

. Wednesday, April 15, 2009

source : www.microsoft.com

It seems like the media report on a new Internet attack, spyware program, or virus every week. Fortunately, you don’t have to be a security expert to improve your computer’s security.

The quickest way to protect yourself is to sign up for Windows Live OneCare. OneCare provides virus scanning, a firewall, tune-ups, automatic updates, and most everything else you need to help protect your computer. If you don’t understand how those security features work, it’s okay, because OneCare does almost everything automatically. If OneCare does need information from you, the software service walks you through the process in a straightforward, friendly manner.

If you’d rather not use OneCare, follow these four steps to make your computer more secure:

1. Install Windows XP Service Pack 2

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), available freely from Microsoft Update, greatly improves the security of your computer. SP2 updates your computer to prevent known security threats, enables Automatic Updates to help protect you from future security threats, and enables Windows Firewall to help protect you from direct Internet attacks.

2. Install antivirus software

Viruses install themselves on your computer by exploiting a security weakness. Once installed, viruses attempt to propagate to other computers across the Internet. Windows XP does not include antivirus software, so you need to download and install an antivirus program, such as Windows Live OneCare. Many other software vendors offer antivirus software, too.

Microsoft also offers the free Malicious Software Removal Tool to help clean your computer if it should become infected. However, the Malicious Software Removal Tool cleans only a limited number of viruses and cannot prevent virus infections. Therefore, you still need to install antivirus software.

3. Install antispyware software

Spyware is a broad term used to describe software that might install itself without your knowledge, take unwanted actions (such as monitoring your computer usage or displaying advertisements), and make itself difficult to remove. If you have ever had your Internet Explorer home page change, seen a toolbar appear unexpectedly, or noticed new icons near your system clock, you may have spyware on your computer.

Antispyware improves your protection by helping you remove known spyware from your computer and helping block the installation of new spyware. Microsoft offers the free Windows Defender for spyware protection.

4. Back up your computer

The first three steps work to protect you from threats against your computer. However, not all threats can be prevented. In particular, hardware failure, theft, and fire can damage your computer and destroy your data. To protect yourself from these threats, plan for recovery by backing up your computer. If disaster strikes, copies of your pictures, home movies, e-mail, and other important documents will be stored safely in your backup.

Remove programs you don't need anymore

If you installed a program and it wasn't as useful or as fun as you had hoped, it's a good idea to remove it. Every program installed on your computer takes up space, and some programs slow your computer down (even if you don't use them).

To remove a program

1.

Log on to your computer as an administrator. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

Start menu with Control Panel selected

2.

Click Add or Remove Programs.

Control Panel with Add or Remove Programs icon selected

3.

In the Currently installed programs list, click the program that you want to remove. Then, click Remove or Change/Remove.

Add or Remove Programs window with a program and Remove button selected

4.

Follow the instructions that appear to remove your program. Each program has a different process. Restart your computer if prompted.

Note: There may be programs on your computer that you're not directly using but that are important. (Operating system updates are an example.) If you're not sure what a program does, it's wise not to remove it until you're sure it's something you do not need. Some programs cannot be removed from the Add or Remove Programs window. In this case, antispyware software such as Windows Defender may be able to remove the software.

Delete files you don't need anymore

.

source : www.microsoft.com

If you don't get rid of or recycle things in your house from time to time, you eventually run out of room. This is true for your computer as well. Whether it's a digital picture with everyone’s eyes closed, an outdated resume, or a song you're tired of, at some point everyone needs to delete files. Deleting a file removes it from your computer and frees up space for more files, just like getting rid of old clothes and shoes frees up room in your closet.

To help you avoid accidentally deleting a file, Windows automatically moves a deleted file to the Recycle Bin, rather than removing it from your computer. You can then choose to restore it from the Recycle Bin or permanently remove it by emptying your Recycle Bin. The sections that follow describe how to delete files and use the Recycle Bin.

Note: The following types of files are not placed in the Recycle Bin:

Files stored on removable disks

Files stored on network drives

Files deleted from compressed (zipped) folders

How to delete a file

1.

To delete a file, click it to select it, and then press the DELETE key.

The DELETE key on a keyboard

2.

When prompted, click Yes.

The Confirm File Delete dialog box

When you delete a file, Microsoft Windows XP moves it to the Recycle Bin so you can recover it later, as described in the next section. If you want to permanently remove a file, empty your Recycle Bin.

Tip

Tip: To bypass the Recycle Bin when deleting a file, hold down the SHIFT key while pressing DELETE. When prompted, click Yes to immediately remove the file from your computer.

How to restore a file from the Recycle Bin

If you deleted the wrong file, don't panic. Deleted files are temporarily stored in the Recycle Bin. To protect you from accidentally deleting a file, the Recycle Bin stores a copy of the files you delete.

To restore your file from the Recycle Bin

1.

On your desktop, double-click the Recycle Bin.

Recycle Bin icon

2.

In the Recycle Bin, you will see every file you have recently deleted. (As the Recycle Bin fills, Windows will automatically delete the oldest items first.) Find the file you want to recover, right-click it, and then click Restore.

File in Recycle Bin selected and Restore selected on shortcut menu

3.

Your file is returned to its original location. You can close the Recycle Bin

Tip

Tip: You can easily access your desktop by right-clicking your clock and then clicking Show The Desktop.

Shortcut menu with Show the Desktop selected

How to empty the Recycle Bin

Rather than wait for Windows to automatically delete files when your Recycle Bin is full, you can free up space for new files by emptying it.

To empty your Recycle Bin

1.

On your desktop, right-click the Recycle Bin, and then click Empty Recycle Bin.

Empty Recycle Bin menu item

2.

When prompted to confirm the action, click Yes.

Confirm File Delete dialog box

Emptying the Recycle Bin permanently removes your files, making them unavailable to most users. However, skilled computer users might be able to recover files even after they have been removed from the Recycle Bin. Therefore, while emptying the Recycle Bin frees up disk space, it is not sufficient for removing highly confidential information. To remove every trace of a file, use a tool such as Cipher.exe to permanently overwrite deleted data.

Specify how folders open

source : www.microsoft.com

Microsoft Windows XP automatically chooses how to display folders based on the types of files they contain. For example, Windows XP displays your My Pictures folder in either Filmstrip or Thumbnails view so that you can see the pictures without opening the files. However, Windows XP displays your My Music folder in Tiles view so that you can see the names of the songs. In this article, you’ll learn the difference between each type of view and how to change your folder settings for individual folders or for all the folders on your computer.

Change the view for a single folder

If you are not satisfied with the way Windows XP displays a folder, you can change it by clicking the Views button on the toolbar and then selecting one of the following options:

Filmstrip. Displays a row of thumbnails (reduced images of pictures) and a large preview of the currently selected picture. Filmstrip view is perfect for folders that contain a few pictures.

My Pictures folder displayed in Filmstrip view

Thumbnails. Displays thumbnails of pictures and videos. Thumbnails view is the best choice for folders containing a large number of pictures.

My Pictures folder displayed in Thumbnails view

Tiles. Displays large icons, file names, and file information for each file.

My Pictures folder displayed in Tiles view

Icons. Displays medium-sized icons and file names for each file.

My Pictures folder displayed in Icons view

List. Displays small icons and file names for each file.

Your computer puts information at your fingertips. Over time, however, you might have so many files that it can be difficult to find the specific file you need. Just like a physical filing cabinet, your computer files can benefit from better organization.

In order to keep your information organized, try these tips:

First, create a folder structure that organizes your files according to category.

Once you've done that, you will be able to find most files by simply clicking the folder. If a folder has a large number of files, you can use the Details view to locate the file you need.

If you aren't sure which folder contains the file you need, you can search your computer for the file.

Create a folder structure

The most effective way to organize your files is to create a folder structure that fits how you use your computer. For example, you might have folders within My Documents for:

Finances: Documents related to your budget and taxes

School: Class notes and reports

Work: Your résumé and other work-related documents

Shopping: Notes comparing different products and stores

Home: Records relating to home maintenance and improvements

To create a folder structure

1.

Click Start, and then click My Documents.

Start menu with My Documents selected

2.

Click the File menu, click New, and then click Folder.

My Documents File menu expanded to access Folder item

3.

Type the name for your new folder, and then press ENTER.

4.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 to create additional folders.

Note: You can create sub-folders within folders for multiple levels of organization.

After you have created your folder structure, you can move files into your new folders

1.

In My Documents, select the files or folders that you want to move. To select multiple files, hold down the CTRL key and click each file you want to select.

2.

Click the Edit menu, and then click Cut.

My Documents Edit menu with Cut selected

3.

Open the folder you want to store your files in. Click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.

Edit menu with Paste selected

4.

Repeat steps 1-3 until you have moved all of your files to their new locations.

Now that you have an organized system of folders, when you save new files, be sure to save them in one of your folders to keep things organized.

Browsing files

Sometimes you know where a file is stored, but there are so many files in the folder that it's difficult to find the file you want. The best way to search through a large folder is to use the Details view. The Details view allows you to quickly sort your files and view different types of information about all the files in a folder.

To use the Details view

1.

Open the folder you want to browse

2.

Click the Views button, and then click Details.

Folder with Details selected from expanded list of view options

3.

To sort the files, click the column heading that you want to sort by. For example, to sort files from oldest to newest, click the Date Modified heading. To reverse the sort order (for example, to sort from newest to oldest), click the column heading twice.

4.

By default, the Details view shows the file name, date, size, and type. You can add other information as well. To add or remove columns, right-click a column heading, and then click More.

5.

In the Choose Details dialog box, select the columns you want to see in the Details view. For pictures and videos, you can add Dimensions to sort by size. For music, you can add Artist, Album Title, and Genre to make it easier to find the songs you want.

Choose Details dialog box

6.

Click OK to add the columns to your Details view.

Choose Details window with OK button selected

When you modify the columns in the Details view, it affects only the folder you are viewing. To change the layout of all folders on your computer, read Specify how folders open.

Searching for files

If you don't remember which folder you saved a file in, you can search for it. To search for a file

1.

Click Start, and then click Search.

Start menu with Search selected

2.

In the left pane, click the type of file you want to search for, or click All files and folders.

Search pane

3.

Based on the type of file you chose to search for, specify your criteria. If you know part of the file name, type it. Then click Search.

Search pane with file type selected and file name text typed in text box

4.

Windows XP searches your computer, which may take several minutes. Windows XP then displays the search results, which you can browse just like files in a folder. Once you are done searching, click Yes, finished searching.

Tip

Tip: If you want to view any of the search results, double-click the file and it will open in the relevant application. You can do this as many times as necessary to find the file you need.

Note: For even faster search results, download and install the MSN Search Toolbar with Windows Desktop Search. With Windows Desktop Search, you can find files on your computer in just a few seconds.
